YFW Blood Bikes

Rider

Our riders are active 24/7 with daytime ad-hoc duties, night time duties, and 24 hour weekend duties.

All our riders are trained to an advanced riding level and must hold a recognised advanced riding qualification such as IAM or ROSPA. To ride for us you must be over 25 years of age, hold a full unrestricted motorcycle licence and have had no recent “at fault” accidents.

It’s a hugely rewarding experience. You can ride as regularly as you’d like, few rides are rarely the same. You will be part of a great, enthusiastic team of riders and support crew. All of whom have one thing in common - they are doing this to Help our Hospitals Save Lives (and they get to ride motorcycles….)

If you are working towards an advanced qualification you can still join us as a non-rider.

Controller

Our controllers are essential to our operation.

As a controller for YFW Blood Bikes, you will take calls from hospitals while organising and dispatching our riders as necessary. This could involve liaising with other blood bike groups around the country to organise long distance relays or balancing the logistics of our own riders and motorcycles.

You will also be responsible for monitoring and keeping track of our riders to help ensure their safety when out on the roads. Controllers will have a reliable and respectable phone manner, good communication skills, and remain calm when under pressure. You will need access to a phone and the internet to effectively carry out the controller duty.

Fundraiser

The service we provide is completely free of charge to the NHS and all members of YFW Blood Bikes are UNPAID volunteers. We save the NHS a large amount of money but more importantly, we ensure blood and other essential supplies are available whenever they are needed.

Fundraising is the lifeline of how we operate. Without the generosity of the public, we would not be able to provide our essential service to the NHS.

As part of the fundraising team, you will be attending events in the local area as well as spreading the awareness of our charity's activities via our social media and local events.

Equipment Team

The upkeep of our equipment is vital to our operation from the checking of our rider safety equipment to the servicing and maintenance of the charity blood bikes.

Due to our high mileage covered across the fleet of motorcycles and the unpredictable British weather, our equipment needs to be kept properly maintained and organised.

Our equipment team is made up of volunteers from across the charity with a range of professions and backgrounds but together, they keep us on the road.
